"The passion for collecting turns a person into a real naturalist, a connoisseur of works of art"
Charles Darwin

As a purposeful human activity dedicated to favorite leisure activities, the hobby is remarkable for several things. This is the ever-burning interest, these are the satisfaction and joy of discovering the perfection of things in life. What most often determines and dictates the focus of the hobby? Is the aspiration to expand the personal horizon or the desire for realization in another field besides the professional one? Is the choice of the preferred leisure activity accidental or is it determined by a number of social, political, moral, aesthetic, psychological and other factors? What is the artistic equivalent and resonance of the hobby on the taste, upbringing and culture of the individual? Is it possible to outline the aesthetic silhouette of the hobby and to outline its aesthetic portrait? Where should its dimensions be sought - in the specific forms of amateur art or in the action that art and beauty have on human consciousness?

Everyone has some interest. Incredible, sometimes downright curious activities consumed the leisure time of famous people. It is known that Einstein was a violinist, Gioachino Rossini and Alexandre Dumas (father) were fond of cooking, Mendeleev - of carpentry, Dostoevsky - of the music of harmonicas (harmonica - a small rectangular wind instrument with a row of metal reeds along its length, held against the lips and moved from side to side to produce different notes by blowing or sucking), Hemingway - hunting and fishing, Herbert von Karajan - mountaineering and skiing, Anatoli Karpov - gypsy songs and romances! ...

The charm of the hobby, like friendship, is hidden in the free will that a person shows in his choice of behavior and action. Individual needs, interests and motives encourage a certain hobby. The hobby satisfies such an inner need, which due to one or another circumstance and reason, has been neglected, emphasized or simply abandoned.

Practicing an activity that brings pleasure and pleasant emotions is not yet a hobby. An important condition for its transformation into a hobby is its organization, system and functional orientation. Practicing and maintaining a certain hobby - be it sports, music, collecting, tourism, painting, singing testifies to valuable and positive traits in human character - sustainable value orientation and focus, strong will, trained taste, a desire to make sense of everyday life, because "the ability to spend your free time wisely is a high level of personal culture” notes the British philosopher Bertrand Russell.

The aesthetic perspectives of the hobby stand out especially clearly and distinctly in the activities and collections dedicated to works, types and genres of art. The constant and purposeful contact, albeit with the miniature graphics, albeit with reproductions of masterpieces of painting, printed on the modest area of the postage stamp, captures the attention and awakens the aesthetic principle in the human person. The first prerequisite for art education and deep penetration into art is the gradual transition from details to the general. And the hobby in its many varieties provides an opportunity for indirect and smooth "aestheticization" of our way of life.

Even in a cursory consideration of some aesthetic aspects of the hobby, another important feature must be emphasized. It is about the inexhaustible opportunities that it provides to people of artistic and creative and transformational activity. The famous Russian physiologist and psychologist Ivan Petrovich Pavlov notes that collecting is the most popular and easily accessible form of human creativity. In addition to perfecting the artistic taste, hobbies enrich the imagination and develop the imagination, because in some amateur activities a person very specifically and directly creates according to the principles and laws of the beautiful and sublime.

The very common hobby - excursions, tourism and communication with nature has given birth to an interesting form of entertainment and amateur art - the so-called "native sculpture". Fans and admirers of this unique art not only search for and collect roots, twigs, bark and stones, but also through mechanical processing - most often associated with emphasizing the figures and their external design, give the desired artistry to the objects. The key to this fascinating activity is the beauty and uniqueness of the sticks, trees and bushes, which gently and unobtrusively caress the human imagination and ignite astonishing admiration for the wonder of nature and the perfection of human labor. For connoisseurs of "native sculpture" indescribable pleasure causes decipher the bizarre, sometimes timid and helpless, and other times bold and threateningly daring forms. Some nature lovers call them "little ideas of nature", which they themselves are called to develop and make sense of. The goal is to discover, imitate and mimic the human!
