#SELFIE - a cult of personality or a modern way of communication?
"The cult of personality has reached monstrous proportions, mainly due to the fact that Stalin encouraged the glorification of his personа... One of the most characteristic manifestations of self-praise and lack of elementary modesty in Stalin was his "Short Biography", published in 1948. This book is a model for the deification of а man, his transformation into an infallible sage, the greatest leader and incomparable general of all times and peoples" said Khrushchev, arguing with Marx and Engels' views on the cult of personality.
Browsing Facebook this morning, I cоme across photos, half of which are in a selfie version. Does fashion make people take pictures like that or did people create this fashion? Do selfie photographers see themselves as leaders of their time or send hidden messages to those who can decipher "what is said" in the selfie? As I ask myself these "chicken or egg" questions, I try to remember what the first selfie I saw was.
Here's what: the selfie of the Three Fools - the characters from the eponymous Bulgarian satirical animated series by the author Donyo Donev. Yes, that's right. In those days when having a camera was considered a luxury (the series was realized in 1970-1990), that some of us were not even born, there were selfies!
However, moving into the more modern world of technology, I remember well that in the beginning, the #selfie was considered narcissism and associated it with negativity. At the time, there were opponents of self-recording, and practitioners were repeatedly criticized and ridiculed. Just then, during the Oscar ceremony, some of the most popular actors of the New Age took the most commented selfie to this day. On it you can see Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, Ellen DeGeneres and others in the A ++ category.
The selfie shot is a retweeting record holder on the social network Twitter and in just one hour since its release on the network, 1,300,000 retweets have been realized! But that's not what's impressive, it's the backstage of the photo, behind which is actually a $ 20 million advertising contract for Samsung - the phone with which the photo was taken. It seemed that from that moment on, the selfie was accepted as a fun way to capture the moment. It even took on a positive look to such an extent that SnapChat created filters for the self-timer, which is an option made possible by mobile phone companies that have decided to put a camera on display - the so-called "front camera", or also called "selfie camera".
It turns out that the #selfie is not a foreign device even for people from the political elite of the world, representatives of business, show business, fashion, in general, for everyone! Putin and selfies? Yes! The list of selfie practitioners also includes Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Beyonce Knowles, Meryl Streep, Hillary Clinton, Jennifer Lopez, Adriana Lima and more and more ...
Are people tele-zombies or does their need for selfies dictate progress in the development of telephones? Some argue that the creation of the selfie stick is not caused by a cult of personality or a desire to convey a meaningful message, but is based on loneliness, which is part of the daily life of Man in the 21st century.
We have heard that many times a picture says more than 1000 words. In fact, what does a selfie photo taken in the mirror in a (supposedly) luxury toilet of a hotel with a (supposedly) high categorization say? You will not see such photos in the official profile of Angelina Jolie on Instagram, or even in that of the selfie queen Kim Kardashian-West! So what kind of communication, what kind of message do young people taking pictures in "expensive" toilets send? The demonstration of a total lack of material success in their lives in combination with the desire to flaunt one, as well as with the addition of their lack of understanding of aesthetics and balance leads to the "flooding" of social networks with such selfies.
My perfect #selfie tips
1. Make sure you are in a great MOOD!
2. If you are not alone, it is recommended that the partner / partners for the photo have good ENERGY!
3. The guarantee of success of a #selfie is the perfect LIGHT.
4. It is desirable to think about what MESSAGE you send with the photo. So the selfie will have a TOPIC (fashion, education, nature, politics, culture ...) and your followers will be more engaged and encouraged to comment.
5. Not only for selfies, but in general, it is good to strive for a pleasant VISION. On a subconscious level, people associate good looks with professional and life success, namely photos with more pleasant-looking people are preferred and liked.
6. For even greater selfie success, use SELFIE STICK. This way you will be able to "capture" more details in the picture and "lock" the moment in its full form.
... As I write this text, I inadvertently witness the # SELFIE of two nice-looking, natural-looking girls and unwittingly witness their conversation: “Will he like me if I send him this picture of us or do it? single selfie? Will he not look too attuned, will he feel that I want to like him, will he think that I am pushing him ... let me send the general selfie ”... And I think: the cult of personality may be over, communication is present and future, and love is the driving force behind it all! Click!
