PROGRESS IN THE RELATIONS BETWEEN THE KINGDOOM OF MOROCCO AND BULGARIA
* The Morocco-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry with large-scale project- Space Food Factory
At the Moroccan Residence in Sofia the latest news on the development of the bilateral relations between Morocco and Bulgaria were announced. The newly-formed Morocco-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) is at the heart of the intensification of bilateral relations. The activity of the Chamber starts with a large-scale project - Space Food Factory.
This was announced during the official press conference with the participation of H.E. Mrs. Zakia El Midaoui - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Mohamed H`Midouche, Vice president of the Moroccan Exporters' Association (ASMEX), who is also Vice-President of the MBCCI, Mr. Asparuh Karastoyanov - Chairman MBCCI and Prof. Dr. Lubomir Stoykov - Deputy Chairman of the Moroccan-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and moderator of the press conference.
At the beginning H.E. Mrs. Zakia El Midaoui presented the diversity of the Kingdom of Morocco and announced the upcoming celebration of the national holiday on July 30, 2019 - the Feast of the Throne, which marks the 20th anniversary of the coronation of King Mohammed VI. She underlined the importance of political stability in the Kingdom of Morocco, which contributes to the economic development of the country and also enables Morocco to support other African economies. During the press conference H.E. Mrs. Zakia El Midaoui also announced that Mr. Asparuh Karastoyanov is the new Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Morocco in Bulgaria.
The participants in the press conference presented the favorable business climate in Morocco, highlighted the opportunities, the advantages and clarified the great potential for developing trade and economic relations between the two countries. Mr. Mohamed H`Midouche announced that the first project of MBCCI - Space Food Factory is expected to start in May 2020, with land and equipment being provided by the Moroccan side and by Bulgarian - the unique technology.
The Moroccan-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will stimulate Bulgarian manufacturers and exporters, and among its main objectives is the creation of a successful re-export model. "Bulgaria can become a hub for Moroccan goods and export to all of Southeast Europe, and Morocco can be a bridge for re-export to Central and West Africa," explained Mr. Asparuh Karastoyanov. He also outlined the main problems impeding trade and economic relations - the lack of direct flight between Morocco and Bulgaria and the visa regime that stops tourism and strategic investments.
Agribusiness, agriculture, food, light industry, engineering - establishment of companies in Morocco, textiles, pharmaceuticals and tourism are part of the sectors with great potential for developing trade and economic relations between the two countries. Morocco exports fertilizers, copper, zinc, industrial equipment, reinforced iron and steel, refrigerators, washing machines, argan oil, fish, animal feeds, etc.e. At present, much of the goods that Bulgaria exports to Morocco are re-exported through other countries, and commercially and economically, no more than 2-3% of the total export potential between the two countries is exploited.
