MARIA DELCHEV: INSPIRATION IS EVERYWHERE
Serbia's talented young designer Maria Delchev has a great affinity for art of all kinds. She graduated in fashion at the National Academy of Art and is currently working on her realization.
She has appeared at the Academy of Fashion events, and her last appearance was in the show of the prestigious "BG Fashion Icon" 2018. Why did she decide to enter the fashion world, who are her favorite designers and who inspires her you will learn from the interview she gave to Fashion Lifestyle Magazine.
How and why did you decide to work with fashion?
Since I was a little interested in the art as a whole, but in my teen years I decided to specifically give in to this passion. I remember how I made my grandmother make exhibitions with mine and her fashion drawings in the corridor ... then we invited people to look at them and judge who had the better ones. But anyway I knew mine were better (laughs).
What fashion shows did you have in Bulgaria and abroad?
Thanks to Professor Lubomir Stoykov from the very beginning, I got a chance to present my works at events organized by the Academy of Fashion, for which I am extremely grateful. I've also been part of various exhibitions and installations, which is also very useful and enriching for me.
Where do you get inspiration for the fashion you create?
I have no limitations, whatsoever. I think inspiration is everywhere, as long as you're open enough.
What are you working on now, what is your current collection? I am currently working on a comprehensive spring collection and I am eager to show it! It is also up to date what was presented in the show before the ceremony of the BG Fashion Icon, mainly inspired by the 80s.
As a young designer, what do you think distinguishes you and what style would you like to impose? It's good to have each collection based on a different theme, but for one I'm definite - the garment must be a good one! Always. No compromise. The details and the story behind it are what makes it unique and distinctive.
What is your attitude as a designer to world fashion trends?
I love fashion and everything that she is. I do not mind trends, but I do not think they should be blind. Not necessarily. On the contrary.
Who are your favorite designers? Why? Every designer has his own unique view of things. But if I had to name one, then that would probably be Karl Lagerfeld. He was a man with a clear appreciation of the world, he was infinitely creative and interested in many things. What he left behind will always be remembered. Karl Lagerfeld remains forever alive.
The style of which world famous celebrities do you like and why? I like celebrities who can dress without the help of stylists, and that's what they enjoy.
What is typical of your personal style of dressing? Diversity. In my wardrobe you will find from the clearest models to the most kitsch’s. It's as if they belong to two completely different individuals.
What do you think makes a fashion designer successful? Quality, creativity and customers who enjoy their work. etc. "Fast fashion" can now buy anywhere. It is easily accessible and I would say annoying. But what about something specially created for you?
How do you think the talented young designers should be encouraged? There are many creative young designers in Bulgaria who definitely deserve full attention. Both from the media and from society as a whole. It is different when you buy a garment behind which is a creative process and a lot of thinking about how to make it as good as possible. And young designers and their creations embody this.
How do you like to spend your free time? What is your favorite hobby? I like to spend my free time doing all sorts of things related to art, including cooking. Learning to enjoy life.
What do you dream of on a professional basis? Not only do I dream, but rather work on it. From the answers given above, I think you can also judge yourself what I'm trying to do.
