YOU CAN’T BE IN VOGUE IF YOU AREN’T DIFFERENT

The devoted people know: the ability or still the reflex to be different is a sure path to the fashion life and to the innovation. The nature of fashion itself involves a permanent change and alternation of one style with other, partial reproduction of forgotten forms and silhouettes, but in new way and together with this innovation, provocative decisions, conceptual radicalism, design courage and changed comprehension for the beauty and the elegance. The famous with his scandalous fashion shows Alexander McQueen for example arguments his decision to include in the spectacle the model Aime Mullins, whose legs are amputated, with the words that the beauty is something, that comes from inside. Here is his difference! Other sworn brother of McQueen – the British designer with Cyprus origin Hussein Chalayan, has an original conception for the materials, the construction and the ways of presentation of the clothes. As a student he burns a part of his collection, to express metaphorically his concept, that fashion is transitory, as he creates the so-called “buried dresses” (clothes and materials, that he really bury in the ground, and after that he dig up them to “give” them back to second life). Here is his difference! Tom Ford, who was working longtime for “Gucci”, showed that he could change past recognition the woman and to give her a detachment of angel, as to reveal unexpected qualities and features in her. How? Just with the help of the manipulative fashion techniques. But his words deserve also respect: ”Fashion is an illusion. The appearance is also an illusion. The real important is this, what is happening in real life”. Here is his difference!..

The difference as a sign for design gift and even genius is only part of the phenomenon fashion. It is well known, that the designers are not at all the only fashion leaders. The youth subcultures are also in condition to impose the new appearance, although more spontaneously end even sporadically. Their contemporary modifications gothic, industrial, ska, neo metal, hardcore or straight edge show fresh and in their bigger part unadulterated faces of the difference. Recognized leaders and messengers of the new style are the icons in the fashion – strong characters, unusual people, recognized celebrities from the world of the cinema and the media, the show business and the sports. They catch first and they trace the symptoms of the new appearance – clothes and complements, colors, forms and ornaments. Thanks to their aesthetical and social courage the world and people understand that you can’t be fashion if you aren’t different. In the basis of this difference is the long cherished human desire for change and originality, for democratic defense of the individuality and of the right of choice of it’s own, for fashion, for cultural identity.
